The Assam government has also announced a policy, which will be backed by a capital investment subsidy

The government of Assam has finally told the media that the state is very optimistic to have an investment of Rs 40,000 Crore to boost the semiconductor manufacturing ecosystem. In order to meet the same, the state has also formed a new semiconductor policy.

Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said, "We are in good discussion... We are competing with three states including Gujarat and Orissa and are hopeful of making a breakthrough. The state government has approved the Assam Electronics (Semiconductor, etc.) Policy 2023.”

A couple of months back, the state also passed the production linked incentive (PLI) scheme for the industry. The Chief Minister further added that Odisha, Uttar Pradesh, and Gujarat, which are now advanced states, have unleashed a specific policy to grow the semiconductor industry. The Assam government has also announced a policy, which will be backed by a capital investment subsidy. Coupled with the new PLI scheme, the state will soon magnetize investments to produce chipset in the state.

In fact, a day back, Netherlands Prime Minister Mark Rutte has stated that they are in discussion with the Indian government to escalate the presence of Dutch semiconductor firms. After attending the G20 summit in New Delhi, the Dutch PM visited Bengaluru with a business delegation and he further said that they want to understand India’s fast payments system, the unified payments interface (UPI), better.

According to an exclusive report of the Deccan Herald, “One of the things we are discussing with the central and state governments is how we can expand in the semiconductor industry here in Bengaluru. We have NXP, for example, here, and we have hugely successful Indian companies like Wipro having presence in the Netherlands,” Rutte further explained.
