ProtoCentral, an India-based company, has unveiled Healthy Pi 5, an open-source data acquisition board designed for capturing and displaying health and bio data. With features such as ECG, respiration monitoring, PPG, SpO₂, and body temperature measurement, the board offers out-of-the-box functionality. It can be used as a standalone device or connected to a Raspberry Pi via a 40-pin connector. The RP2040 microcontroller, WiFi and Bluetooth support from the ESP32 C3 module, and multiple analog front ends make it a versatile solution.
To expand the device's capabilities, users can utilize the Qwiic connector, which is compatible with a wide range of I2C-based sensors and other devices. The board also features a Micro SD card socket for convenient data logging. Alternatively, users can opt to stream data in real-time using the Lab Streaming Layer system, which is an open-source solution. ProtoCentral has taken into account the need for expansion and offers several add-ons. For instance, the Carrier board provides five Qwiic connectors and incorporates power and USB isolation. Another option is a 3.5" 480x320 TFT Screen equipped with a three-way navigation switch. Furthermore, users can choose from various software options to enhance their experience. ProtoCentral has made the hardware and software open source, and the Healthy Pi 5 is available through Crowd Supply, starting at $275 for a comprehensive kit.
