The Introduction of MAX31889 and MAX31825 from Maxim Integrated Product Inc. can allow the designers of highly reliable cold-chain pharma and other temperature-sensing applications to achieve high accuracy and robust system operation.
The MAX31889 digital temperature sensor combines high accuracy and power consumption to replace the expensive resistance temperature detectors (RTDs) in precise temperature-sensitive applications. Whereas the MAX31825 digital temperature sensor allows up to 64 devices per bus, which can all be powered by the 1 Wire bus.
Packed in a 6-pin µDFN package, MAX31889’s highest accuracy and lowest power consumption provide robust protection of customer assets. The device can deliver precise measurement of ±0.25-degree Celsius accuracy and measures the temperature of the cold-chain pharma products in a fraction of the cost of RTDs at 35 percent of the power consumed than other similar products.
With the precision of ±1-degree Celsius accuracy, MAX31825 has been designed to reduce the wiring and design complexity by allowing connections up to 64 devices in the same parasitically powered 1-wire bus. Each device has a unique code which can be optionally programmed with a location address to simplify system design. The 1-wire versatility of the device helps in reducing 8x of necessary wiring compared to the other two-or three-wire solutions. The MAX31825 supports longer battery life and extends operational uptime with a low standby current of 2.5µA. The Device is available in a 6-bump WLP and it is suitable to be used in consumer devices and factory automation.
