Nuvoton Technology Corporation Japan (NTCJ) has launched KA44370A ,a new integrated circuit (IC) for 48V direct drive motor drivers, designed to optimise efficiency and airflow while supporting high-speed rotation in fan motors. This new motor driver IC is specifically engineered to seamlessly integrate with server systems utilising a 48V power supply. This product offers remarkable design flexibility, making it suitable for a wide range of applications that require varying voltage, rotation speed, and load specifications. These applications span across servers, base stations, factory automation (FA) equipment, and various industrial machinery.
The newly developed motor drive IC integrates a 100-V rated voltage control circuit using advanced high-voltage control technology into a compact 4mm✕4mm QFN package. This design significantly reduces the need for external components like step-down regulators, resulting in a 53% reduction compared to previous 24V products. This innovation addresses the escalating power consumption and vibration issues affecting fan motors, which can impact HDD error rates. The IC is designed for easy integration into 1U-sized (40mm✕ 40mm) fans, supporting high-density data processing environments.
The product’s unique current feedback control technology achieves a 30% reduction in power consumption for single-phase fan motors and decreases vibration by 20dB compared to traditional motors. Furthermore, the 48V direct drive motor driver IC ensures stable and reliable motor startup, even amidst mutual interference from multiple fan motors. Its proprietary rotation control algorithm enables dependable and stable restarts, even at twice the reverse rotation speed of conventional products.
