Texas Instruments has expanded its portfolio of temperature sensors with the new TMP61, TMP63, and TMP64 Linear Thermistors. The new Thermistors delivers up to 50% higher accuracy than negative temperature coefficient (NTC) Thermistors. The high accuracy allows the Thermistors to operate closer to the thermal limits, which helps the engineers to maximize the performance and reduce the bill-of-materials (BOM) and total solution cost.
The NTC Thermistors have been used more due to their low price even if they possess some disadvantages, TI’s new linear Thermistors are available at a similar price with more values such as minimizing design time, reducing component count, and increasing system performance. These Thermistors provide reliable and highly accurate thermal measurement even at a temperature above 80°C, which is important for industrial, automotive, and consumer applications where precise, real-time temperature readings are fundamental to system performance and protection.
The linearity and high accuracy of TI’s thermistors enable single-point calibration, which maximizes system performance and simplifies design. These thermistors offer very low typical drift of 0.5% to improve the reliability of the temperature measurements, this allows the designers to boost system performance at the same time maintaining safe operation.
TI thermistors allow the engineers to simplify design, lower system cost, and reduce PCB layout size by at least 33% compared with NTC thermistors. Due to the low profile and small package, the thermistors can be placed closer to thermal hotspots in faster thermal response and more consistent temperature measurements.
