Bringing new possibilities for space-constrained cellular IoT, SIMCom in collaboration with Infineon and Kigen has introduced a new SIM7070 series NB-IoT module in a compact footprint (24 mm x 24 mm). Combining GSMA-compliant eSIM remote management from Kigen with a high eSIM security controller from Infineon, this compact module is optimized for space-constrained and industrial applications.
The new NB-IoT SIM7070 module supports the option of embedding a miniaturized eSIM and facilitates integration and logistics while reducing costs of manufacturing secure by design goods at scale. The device supports wireless communication modes of Cat-M/Cat-NB/GPRS/EDGE. Employing an LCC form factor, the compact-sized module has abundant interfaces including UART, GPIO, PCM, SPI, I2C, and is ideal for compact product design. The SIM7070 series is suitable to be used in the metering tracker and other various scenes which need low latency, low-throughput data communication in a variety of radio propagation conditions. The high performance, security, and flexibility offered by this module make it ideally suited for M2M applications, such as metering, asset tracking, remote monitoring, E-health, and more. The Power Saving Mode(PSM) and Extended Discontinuous Reception(eDRX) enable the SIM7070 series to extend battery life up to 10 years. Additionally, it provides deeper coverage enhancement compared to GSM. The form factor and AT commands of the module are compatible with SIM7000X/SIM800F/SIM900.
Talking about the NB-IoT module SIM7070 product family, Vincent Korstanje, CEO of Kigen said:
“One barrier to scaling IoT is the complexity device makers face in accessing readily available hardware, and especially so with low-power cellular IoT. Thus, the collaboration with SIMCom and Infineon brings together all elements in a way that allows even the smallest devices to get connected with ease and at scale. With Kigen’s GSMA-certified eSIM OS and remote SIM provisioning services, device makers can manufacture a single product to win new customers in new geographies and work with their preferred connectivity networks.”
The single certified eSIM-enabled module enables OEMs and MVNOs to ease manufacture and logistics for the acceleration of massive IoT to quickly scale to millions of devices in the field without any location restrictions. SIMCom, Kigen, and Infineon have announced the module’s immediate availability, even as a first in Europe.
