Expanding the XGS family of image sensors, ON Semiconductor has launched high performance, low noise XGS 45000, XGS 30000, and XGS 20000 image sensors. The lately introduced sensors offer 12-bit image quality at a high frame rate and provide imaging with up to 45 Mp for resolution critical applications and up to 60 fps in 8K video mode.
Other than these three sensors, the new XGS 5000 has also been added to the XGS family. Designed with low power performance and ideal image quality for compact 29 x 29 mm2 camera designs, the XGS 5000 comes in 3 Mp and 2 Mp variants to choose from.
The devices in the XGS series feature a 3.2 µm pixel size providing ideal resolution. The advanced pixel design ensures low noise performance and high image quality that makes these sensors apt to be used for various IoT applications like machine vision and Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS). Additionally, there is a global shutter that helps in capturing moving objects without any motion artifacts.
The common architecture of XGS devices enables one camera design to be developed with multiple resolutions. Moreover, these image sensors include energy-efficient design, reduced power, and thermal footprint. The ease-of-use and image quality of the XGS family has persuaded several leading manufacturers like Teledyne Imaging, JAI A/S, and Basler to launch their new products based on these new image sensors.
The demo kit that includes a hardware platform with DevSuite software is also made available. This allows full sensor evaluation with access to all register settings. The X-Celerator platform includes public FPGA code and provides a direct interface to standard FPGA development environments including Xilinx and Altera. The X-Cube platform supporting XGS devices up to 16 Mp is a full 29 x 29 mm2 reference design that offers HiSPi-to-MIPI conversion via a Lattice FPGA as well as image capture, processing, and analysis using the DevSuite software.
The XGS 45000, XGS 30000, XGS 20000, and XGS 5000 image sensors are available in a 251-pin µPGA package in both monochrome and Bayer color configurations.
