Digital Matter has launched a new cellular IoT asset tracker based on Nordic’s low power SiP, called the Remora3. The Remora3 supports magnetic tamper detection and features market leading battery life of 10 years according to Digital Matters. It also features an IP68 and IK07 rated waterproof, ultra rugged housing to survive in tough work environments, while weighing only 430grams with the size of 222x91x41mm. The Remora3 features a highly accurate 3-axis accelerometer for movement detection, high-G events, tip detection, and rotation counting, as well as a recovery mode for real-time tracking of stolen or missing assets. This enables us to track the asset while on movement and the tracker will enter sleep mode while stationary to save power.
The Remora3 is built around the nRF9160 low power Sip from Nordic, which features64 MHz Arm Cortex -M33 application processor and integrated LTE-m/NB-IoT modem and GNSS. With this the Remora3 is able to employs high precision, low power GNSS including GPS, GLONASS, Galileo, BeiDou, and QZSS to work out its position with enhanced accuracy and faster location fixes. The Remora3 will transmit the asset location via LTE-M or NB-IoT network. It also supports automatic roaming between LTE-M and NB-IoT networks. The Remora3 is powered by two D Cell Lithium Thionyl Chloride (LTC) batteries, which enables the device to operate in extreme temperature operation. In addition, the Remora3 can also operate as a Bluetooth 5.2 gateway integrating with third-party Bluetooth sensors for tagged asset management and sensor monitoring.
