We are deep in e-mobility. In the next three years, we will expand to six models and out of this, one specific model we should bring to India as well
The Czech based global car-maker Skoda has now geared up to start assembly units of electric vehicles in India by the end of 2027. Skoda Auto India Brand Director, Petr Janeba has told the media that Skoda is now carefully testing its upcoming EV SUV Enyaq, which is also expected to be launched in India in that year itself.
When questioned about the details of the assembly of EV units in India, the brand director said that the aim is to begin a complete battery EV assembly unit in the country by 2027. Highlighting Skoda’s strong commitment towards electric mobility, Janeba exclusively told Business Today, “We are deep in e-mobility. In the next three years, we will expand to six models and out of this, one specific model we should bring to India as well."
Pointing out various challenges, including regulations, the brand director suggested the requirement for importing completely built units (CBU) before 2024. Janbea feels this is an imperative move towards electric mobility and it also meets with the government’s initiative to target 30 percent of EV car sales by 2030. Speaking about Skoda’s growth strategies in the nation, Janeba highlighted two important pillars: the launch of a compact SUV and complete focus on electric mobility.
"The compact SUV is next year. E-mobility strategy will probably start this year but it will be more or less a 'testing the waters' strategy for us with CBU imports and then we have to go deeper in terms of local assembly," added Janeba. Anticipating sales for compact SUVs, Janeba is highly optimistic. He projected a potential market of 60,000 to 90,000 cars based on last year's 4 million sold cars in India.
