The Nordic country Sweden is all set to transform and revolutionize its electric vehicle charging ecosystem with an aim of unleashing the globe’s first of its kind 3000 kms long electrified road network. With this project, the electric cars can be charged on the go without any difficulty and the country is also planning to reduce the travel times between the charging stations.
This much-awaited venture will witness the electrification of the E20 expressway, which will connect the major cities such as Gothenburg, Malmo, and Stockholm. With the help of this venture, Sweden is looking forward to reducing carbon emissions, boosting sustainable transportation and the electric vehicle ecosystem. Over the past few years, Sweden has brought various innovations in terms of green transportation, carried out various road tests, and trials to find out the actual solution for the electrified road network.
Counting the various tests, there was an overhead electric line for larger vehicles, induction coils embedded below the road’s surface, and also a charging rail for electric trucks. After thorough examination and experiment, it was revealed that putting an induction coil under the asphalt proved to be very effective. Jan Pettersson, Director of Strategic Development at Trafikverket, the Swedish transport administration, told Euronews Next, "We think the electrification solution is the way forward for decarbonising the transport sector and we are working with a number of solutions."
According to Pettersson, this imperative venture not only improves the travel range of the electric cars, but also assures to make them more cost-effective, pushing a new era of eco-friendly transportation. Most importantly, this project will improve the adoption rate of EVs in the country and around the world and this is because cars owners will now have the confidence to go for a longer travel without the worry of running out of charge.
