The new ultra-miniature W Series of embedded Wi-Fi antennas from AVX Corporation can provide maximum design flexibility, easy implementation, quicker time-to-market, and reliable, well-matched performance for exceptional network coverage and high-speed data rates in wireless applications across the agricultural, commercial, consumer, computing, industrial, medical, and telecommunications markets. These new antennas are available in several standard single- and dual-band designs with PCB or FPC antenna technologies, performance-enhancing foam coatings, and with various mounting options.
The new W Series includes three families of embedded Wi-Fi antennas viz. W1, W2, and W3. Each antenna weighs 0.3 g, measure 0.4 mm in height, support three PCB/FPC thicknesses (0.1 mm, 0.4 mm, and 0.8 mm), exhibit 50Ω unbalanced feed-point impedance, and comply with the latest RoHS directives. These antennas come in 2.4GHz, 5GHz, and 6GHz frequency bands and can support integrated foam coatings on component backsides to minimize antenna detuning on various surfaces, several different mounting adhesives.
The devices come with FPC or PCB antenna technologies, three tuning options (tuning on the plastic wall, tuning for foam on the plastic wall, and tuning with ribs), three adhesive mounting options for compatibility with FPC, PCB, or PCB+ foam materials, three standard cable lengths (50mm, 100mm, and 150mm) and diameters (0.81mm, 1.13mm, and 1.37mm) with black or gray cable jackets, and three standard connector options i.e. U.FL, W.FL, or MHF4 connectors in down, up, left, or right orientations with respect to PCB silkscreen printing.
The new W series antennas are suitable to be used in various wireless gateways, access points, routers, and large area networks (WLANs), smart home systems, industrial machine-to-machine (M2M) communications, digital signage, and a wide variety of other cross-market devices and equipment that employ Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and ZigBee communications protocols. The current lead-time for the antennas is seven weeks and they come in standard PE bags packaging.
