Diodes Incorporated released the PI3A6386 USB Type-C multimedia port switch, designed to enable manufacturers to continue supporting legacy data and analog peripherals through USB Type-C ports. The manufacturers are removing other ports such as USB 2.0 and 3.5mm audio sockets and adopting only USB Type-C ports. The PI3A6386 port switch enables legacy data and audio signals to be passed through the USB Type-C port, allowing consumers to continue using existing peripherals.
Keeping the high design priority of low crosstalk between data and audio channels, the PI3A6386 successfully qualify with a crosstalk rejection of -85dB at 30kHz. Also the performance of the PI3A6386 port switch ensures a high level of audio quality, without signal distortion or noise. The port incorporates autonomous microphone and ground line switching and its CMOS design delivers an ON resistance of just 1Ω for the audio switching transistor.
The PI3A6386 also feature a programmable soft-start and soft-stop time eliminating the pop and click that audio signals can experience when they are DC-coupled. This helps in delivering an audio experience free from distortion. The PI3A6386 is suitable for portable device since it can operate from a supply voltage of between 1.7V and 5.5V. Other than this, ±3V processing signals improves the dynamic range and audio quality. The THD of -110dB is maintained from 20Hz to 20kHz with a signal of 2.0V RMS into a 32Ω load. The Separate ground switches further minimize crosstalk in the audio and data signals.
The PI3A6386 supports USB 2.0 High Speed and Full Speed signals, USB Type-C Audio Accessory Mode and is available in the TQFN-24 package from Diodes.
