A media report has now stated that according to some anonymous officials of the government who wished to be unnamed, has told that the government of Delhi has started drafting a revised electric vehicle policy for the coming three years and regarding that it will hold a stakeholders meeting in the coming week for consultations.
In August 2023, the current EV policy, which was formed in 2020 will expire and officials have stated that around 86 percent of the targets and policy measures have already been fulfilled and along with the large incentive offtake, an amount of only Rs 154 Crore has been provided the Delhi government as subsidy for purchasing EVs.
The point to be noted is that although the current policy expires in August, some of them have deadlines until 2025 and the revised policy is anticipated to extend the targets and include some hard-hitting measures in areas, which are not given importance until now. As per a report of the ET, the areas include setting up private charging stations, electrification of commercial heavy vehicle fleets, increasing private vehicle ownership, etc.
N Mohan, Chief Executive Officer, EV cell told ET, "We're going to start holding stakeholder consultations to get views from original equipment manufacturers, dealers, customers, and experts on what can be revised in the policy and how the targets can be realistically reviewed. We know that setting up private charging infrastructures needs more push."
The exclusive report of ET further added that the policy is likely to assure that 25 percent of all new cars registered by 2024 will be electric and currently, only 11 percent cars registered in Delhi are EVs. But, there are certain categories where the adoption rate is very high such as 62 percent of three-wheeler goods vehicles are electric, and 45 percent of new cabs are also electric. The pathetic scenario is that only 3 percent of personal cars are electric.
The revised policy has also some additional targets such as 70 percent of pub transport bus fleets will be must be electric by 2025, an unleash of 8000 genuine electric buses by the timeframe, and the delivery service fleet will be electrified 100 percent by 2025, and by the end of this year, the Delhi government official fleet will be electric 100 percent.
