Silicon Labs have launched a new portfolio of highly integrated secure wireless Gecko modules that reduce development cost and complexity. This made it easier to add robust mesh networking connectivity to a wide range of Internet of Things (IoT) products. The new MGM210x and BGM210x Series 2 modules support leading mesh protocols (Zigbee®, Thread, and Bluetooth® mesh), Bluetooth Low Energy and multiprotocol connectivity. They can act as the best wireless solution to improve mesh network performance in various types of IoT systems, from smart LED lighting to home and industrial automation.
The new modules are based on silicon labs, where the wireless Gecko Series 2 Platform has the best RF performance, a powerful Arm Cortex- M33 processor, best in class software stacks, a dedicated security core and a temperature rating of +125 oC which is suitable for harsh environmental conditions. These modules were created to optimize the performance of the resource that are constrained IoT products without requiring functionality trade-offs impacting community reliability, product security or field upgradability.

Securing the IoT
The xGM210x Modules help the developers to improve the security of the IoT products by securing the boot with rood of trust and secure the loader (RTSL) technology helps prevent malware infection and rollback to ensure authentic firmware execution and over the air (OTA) updates. The dedicated security core isolates the application processor and delivers fast, energy-efficient cryptographic operations with differential power analysis (DPA) countermeasures. The cryptography is strengthened by a true random number generator (TRNG) compliant with NIST SP800-90 and AIS-31. A secure debug interface with lock/unlock allows authenticated access for enhanced failure analysis. The module's Arm Cortex-M33 core integrates TrustZone technology, enabling system-wide hardware isolation for trusted software architectures.
Simplifying IoT development
The developers can reduce the time to market by using the Silicon Labs “Simplicity Studio” which has a comprehensive software stack, application demos, and mobile apps. This advanced software tools include patented network analyzed and energy profiler that helps the developers to optimize the wireless performance and energy consumption of IoT applications.
The integrated RF power amplifier makes the module reliable for long-distance applications such as Bluetooth Low Energy application, The series 2 modules are optimized for LED light bulbs and a versatile printed circuit board form factor module designed to meet the needs of ultra-small IoT product designs.
Samples and production quantities of the xGM210P and The Wireless Gecko starter kit mainboard and Series 2 radio boards are available now. Samples and production quantities of the xGM210L modules are planned to be available in Q4 2019.
