This campaign, in collaboration with Soldered Electronics, introduces an open-source e-paper word processor featuring a low-profile mechanical keyboard and an Inkplate 5 display. With enhanced readability and extended battery life, Zerowriter Ink builds on the original project to offer a modern, fully assembled alternative for writers seeking a distraction-free tool.
The Zerowriter Ink runs on an ESP32 SoC with firmware fully written in the Arduino IDE. Key features include a 1280x720 widescreen e-paper display, a hot-swappable 60% mechanical keyboard, and a 5000 mAh LiPo battery that provides up to a week of daily use. The device's Arduino-based firmware is easy to hack, offering ample opportunities for community-based upgrades. The creators have committed to making the entire project fully open-source, with all source files, including the code base and hardware design files, to be published on GitHub when shipments begin.
