Project Idea
When we board a bus sometimes, we find the bus to be crowed. Its very difficult to get a seat in
the bus forcing us to stand throughout the journey. People sometimes also smoke in the bus
which is very irritating for many passengers. Few people even drink alcohol in the bus.
In this project we are focusing upon improving the overall passenger experience when using
public transport. This would allow people to use public transport without much inconvenience.
In this project the microcontrollers are programmed by C++. There are two microcontrollers.
One is for getting input from the sensors and displaying it on an LED matrix. The other
microcontroller is for communicating with the cloud service and displaying the data in a web
interface. Here the cloud service used is Blynk IoT.

A pressure sensor is fitted on all seats of the bus. The pressure sensors sense a person sitting on
a seat and gives that data to the Arduino. The seat vacancy is indicated by a LED matrix display.
The matrix display shows the position of vacant seats. The same output is sent to an Esp-8266
which is connected to the internet. The Esp-8266 uploads the data to a cloud service. The data
from the cloud service is displayed on a web interface. The web interface allows anyone to view
the available seats in the bus. The MQ-2 sensor detects smoke or alcohol and buzzes a buzzer to
warn the person.
This project is helpful for those at the bus stop waiting for a bus as well as people who are
planning to board a bus. People can easily check the seats that are vacant in the bus by seeing
the LED matrix display at the entrance of the bus. The matrix display will also help people locate
the vacant seats and get to the vacant seats quickly. People can also check the seat vacancy on
the web before going to the bus stand so that people can avoid wasting their time waiting at the
bus stand but not finding any vacancy in the bus. This system will also warn the people who are
smoking or consuming alcohol.
It can save the time of many people.
It will reduce the overcrowding in the bus to some extent.
It will allow people to get seats in the bus quickly.
It will allow the bus agency to analyze the most crowded routes so that the agency can
have more buses on those routes. This would allow the bus agency to be more
profitable.
It will prevent people from smoking or drinking alcohol in bus.
An alcohol sensor can be added to the driver seat so that no alcoholic driver can drive
the bus.
An automatic brake system can be added to the buses.
A system can be added in which a user can update the number of seats they want to
occupy which will add up and be displayed in the web interface so that people can
know how many people are waiting to board the bus.
A display can be fitted in the bus stand to indicate the seat vacancy in the next bus.
